WEAVING

Weaving a better future

The wish of the carpet company Tisca in Vorarlberg to support the social project ELIJAH resulted in the establishment of a small production in Ţichindeal. To this end we converted an old barn into a workshop which houses four wooden weaving looms and a storage room. Here the carpet factory employs women who were hitherto unemployed. The Romani women were given training and initially accompanied in their work in Ţichindeal. Today, they independently produce about 2,500 square metres of carpet per year.

The weaving mill provides long-term employment for eight unskilled Romani women. In this remote village, the weaving mill gives them and their families a fixed local job and a regular income.
