ELIJAH’s ravens

The raven is the hallmark of the prophet Elijah on Romanian icons. When Elijah spoke truth to the unjust king, he was forced to flee. Ravens came to Elijah as he was hiding near the brook Cherith. The Bible reports: „The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening“ (1 Kings 17,6).

In Romania, „raven“ is a derogatory term for a Rom. But ravens are loyal, social, clever and learn quickly. We aim to help the ravens attain their rights. No longer the subjects of abuse and shame, their talents shall shine and they can bring friendship. They shall sparkle in commitment for others. Raven children save lives.

Our friends provide us the bread to feed the hungry. The children present us with great challenges and fill our hearts with joy. Our children and our friends are as the ravens of Elijah, who supply us with all necessities.

The prophet and helper in time of need

With fire from heaven, Elijah fights for justice. He provides assistance in the time of famine. He brings the child of a widow back to life. Boldly, he confronts an unjust king. At the end of his life, he is taken up to heaven in a chariot of fire. He leaves behind a school of prophets with many assistants. Elijah blazes the trail for the Messiah.

From the prophet we take the name of our social projects.
