The rhythm runs through all my tasks at Elijah: It starts early in the morning with morning prayers – I play drums and cajon there while Ali plays the piano. After breakfast I collect all the children and we march together to our social center Casa Paul.
Why is my name Beatbox? Actually, my name is Florin, but anyone who has listened to me how I can imitate drums and other instruments with my mouth and nose will quickly understand why everyone just calls me beatbox.
It’s always a hilarious sight for the people on the streets of Hosman when I walk over to Casa Paul with about 15 kids to the accompaniment of drums, scratches and hand claps. Even little Mirabela – I always push her on her bike because she has a deformed foot – is enthusiastic about it. I’ve also had a limp since I was a child, so the daily walks are very difficult for me. In the social center we do educational games and we draw and do gymnastics.
On some days the children are a bit restless, but after a short beatbox session in between, everyone quickly gets back into the right rhythm.
