Weaving together for a better future

The Vorarlberg carpet company Tisca wanted to support the ELIJAH social project, so a small production facility was set up in the Ziegental. We converted an old barn into a workshop, which houses four wooden looms and a storage room. The carpet factory employs women in the weaving mill who have not been gainfully employed up to now. In order to process high-quality carpets from wool white and natural-coloured yarns, they had to be trained at Tiscas production in Cisnadie. Today they produce around 2500 square metres of carpet a year in the weaving mill, which we operate in cooperation with Tisca. It is an important institution for the families because it offers eight mothers in the remote village a permanent job in their place of residence and thus a regular income.
